DÅM-K Udskriv Email

+6 #4 Michele Greb 2011-01-11 08:58 Here is an even more "radical" idea upon which to ponder:

For 13 and younger males, 12 and younger females, remove time standards for 50s and 100s. Swimmers those ages must qualify in the 200 of whatever stroke, then they get the 50 and 100 "for free".

This would ensure our youngest athletes are not being pushed into "sprint" training programs and indeed being properly prepared with Age Related Training (ATK)and with a view to their future performance.

No more "year" swimming. 12 and Under Males, 13 and Under Females, then break it out by age as of the first day of the competition, to ensure someone who has a birthday at the end of the year does not compete with someone who has a birthday at the beginning of the year. We all know there are huge social and physiological differences in even a 7 month age range.

The changes might be a book-keeping nightmare, but surely they would be in the best interests of the swimmers. And if such a change were determined to be in the best interests of age group swimmers (aka our future seniors)then to NOT do it because the change in administration would be a hassle is just not acceptable if our performance goals are serious.

+7 #2 Michele Greb 2011-01-04 16:29 Bonus swims are indeed a good idea. I would suggest it go a step farther for a competition like this and say up to five events: one QT + 4 bonus, 2 QTs + 3 bonus, and if you qualify for five or more events then no worries. 800/1500 not to be used for bonus events.

This should even be in place for DMs. The impact would be minimal, under 90 minutes per heats session at senior levels.

Just my experience and opinion
